This section of the website features a step by step guide by VITA (MARK HARRISON - Sound Designer - Synthsounds.co.uk) on how to make new sounds on your Korg Kronos starting with how to make a simple Program from an initialized patch using the VITA SOUNDS VOL. 1 HD1 Demo Sound Bank which is available to download for free from SYNTHSOUNDS.CO.UK. 

In this tutorial, I will show you how to make a simple program on your Korg Kronos - A simple Synth Bass program using a Square waveform.

 

Before you begin the step by step tutorial please download the free VITA SOUNDS VOL. 1 Demo Patches from the Uplifted Music & Media Portal Online Store by clicking on the link below!

The VITA SOUNDS VOL. 1 Demo Patches Sound Banks include initialized patches to get you started.

*Don't forget to back up your PCG files before loading the VITA SOUNDS VOL. 1 HD1 Demo Sound Bank! Refer to your Kronos manual for instructions to save any pre-existing Sound Banks.

SQUARE BASS TUTORIAL

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS:

Step 1

- Select PROG (PROGRAMS) on the front of your Korg Kronos.

- Then select the VITA HD1 Demo Sound Bank which you have loaded into your Kronos.

- Then select the relevant program: 020 - VITA INIT PROGRAM HD1 to get you started!

Step 2

- Select the "OSC/Pitch" tab on the touchscreen of your Kronos in Program Mode.

- Then select the OSC 1 Basic tab on the touchscreen.

- Change the multi-sample by selecting "00000 : Acoustic Piano 1 mf - L" which is the default setting in the initialized patch to "01125 Square" and then press OK on the touchscreen. You will need to select the "Single Wave" tab to access the "01125 Square" multi-sample.

- Select "Tune" on the touchscreen at the top and change the value to "-0001" by rotating the value wheel.

Step 3

- Then select the OSC 2 Basic tab on the touchscreen.

- Change the multi-sample again by selecting "00000 : Acoustic Piano 1 mf - L" which is the default setting in the initialized patch to "01125 Square" and then press OK on the touchscreen. You will need to select the "Single Wave" tab to access the "01125 Square" multi-sample.

- Select "Tune" again on the touchscreen at the top and change the value to "+0001" by rotating the value wheel.

 

Step 4

- Next select the "FILTER" tab on the touchscreen.

- Then select the "Filter 1" tab.

- Change "Frequency" to "35"

 

Step 5

- Then select the "Filter 2" tab.

- Change "Frequency" to "35"

 

Step 6

- Select the "AMP/EQ" tab.

- Then select "Amp 1 EG" tab.

- Then in the "Envelope" settings, change "Time" - "Release" to "50".

- Change "Curve": Decay to "0 (Lin)", Slope to "0 (Lin)" and Release to "0 (Lin)".

 

Step 7

- Then select "Amp 2 EG" tab.

- Then in the "Envelope" settings, change "Time" - "Release" to "50".

- Change "Curve": Decay to "0 (Lin)", Slope to "0 (Lin)" and Release to "0 (Lin)".

 

Step 8

- Then select the "EQ" tab.

- Change "Low Gain" to "+05.0 (dB)".

- Change "Mid Frequency" to "4.30k (Hz)".

- Then change "Mid Gain" to "+03.0 (dB)".

- Then change "High Gain" to "+05.0 (dB)".

 

Step 9

- Select the "IFX" tab.

- Then select the "Routing" tab.

- For "Bus Select (IFX/INDIV. OUT ASSIGN)", select "All OSCs to" from "L/R" to "IFX1".

 

Step 10

- Then select the "Insert FX" tab.

- Turn "IFX1" from "off" to "on" by selecting it.

- Then next to that setting by the right of the "on" button, select "000: No effect" and change it to select "CHO/FLN/PHS" tab.

- Then select "040: Stereo Chorus" to add sound effects to the patch.

 

Step 11

- Select "IFX 1 - 12" tab.

- Change "LFO" "Waveform" to "Sine".

- Change "Frequency (Hz):" to "0.02"

- Change "Chorus" "Depth" to "70".

- Change "Output" "Wet/Dry" to "25:75"

 

Step 12

- Select the "MFX/TFX" tab.

- Then select the "Routing" tab.

- Select "Off" button and change it to "On".

- Then select > "000: No effect" and change it to select "Dynamics" tab.

- Select "Stereo Compressor".

 

Step 13

- Then select "MFX 1" tab.

- Then in "Compressor" change the "ratio" to "4.0:1".

- "Threshold (dB)" to "-18".

- "Soft Knee Width (dB)" to "20".

- Change "Attack (msec):" to "450.0".

- Change "Release (msec):" to "50".

- "Gain Adjust (dB)" to "+5"

 

Step 14

- To save your new program which you have created, select the "Play" tab.

- Then select "Main" tab in the top right hand corner of the touchscreen.

- And then select "Write Program".

 

Step 15

- Then name your new program and select "OK" on the touchscreen to save your newly edited patch.

CONGRATULATIONS! You have now learnt to make your first program on your Korg Kronos.
